Saturday, October 22nd, 9pm – Midnight
You’ve attended a lot of parties before, but have you ever attended a star party? No, I don’t mean a party with lots of celebrities. I mean a party with actual stars…and moons, planets and occasionally a meteor or two.
Cloudland Canyon State Park and the Friends group are hosting a night of stargazing in the park at the top of Lookout Mountain. The Barnard Astronomical Society will be on hand with telescopes and lots of information for those who want to view the wonders of the night sky.
So what can you expect to see? On this night, the Orionids Meteor Shower will be at its peak. We will also enjoy some good moon observations, as the moon will be in a great phase for viewing. We will also be looking at and identifying the Constellations of Autumn, Deep Sky Objects like star clusters, nebulae and other galaxies.
We are meeting near the start of the disc golf course. The viewing starts at 9 PM and goes to midnight. This astronomy program is FREE to everyone in the park.
We can always use a few more volunteers for this event. If you’d like to volunteer, use our contact form to let us know.
